Who we are
Rara Avis ("we," "us," "our") operates raraaviscigars.com and the Rara Avis watchlist and alert service. This policy explains what information we collect when you use the site, how we use it, and the choices you have.
Rara Avis concerns tobacco products and is intended for adult collectors 21 years of age or older. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 21, and the site's age gate exists to keep it that way.
Information we collect
Account information
If you sign in, we collect your email address (used for magic-link sign-in and alerts) and, if you add one, a phone number for text alerts. If you subscribe to Reserve, Stripe handles your payment details directly — we never see or store your card number.
Watchlist and preferences
The releases you star, any price ceilings you set, and your referral code and referral activity.
Local device data
Before you sign in, your watchlist and your age-gate confirmation are stored locally in your browser (not on our servers) so the site remembers them on that device. Signing in moves your local watchlist into your account.
Technical logs
Basic technical information (like request timestamps and error logs) generated by normal use of the site, used only for keeping the service running and diagnosing problems.
How we use it
- To send the alerts and digests you sign up for
- To keep your watchlist and preferences in sync across devices
- To process Reserve subscriptions and referral rewards
- To operate, secure, and improve the service
- To respond if you contact us
We do not sell your information, and we do not use it for third-party advertising.
Who we share it with
We share information only with the providers that make the service work:
- Supabase — our database and account/authentication provider
- Resend — sends account and alert emails on our behalf
- Stripe — processes Reserve subscription payments; handles your card details directly, we don't
- Hosting and domain providers — keep the site running and reachable
- A future push-notification or SMS provider, if and when text alerts launch
We do not share your information with the retailers we track. They have no visibility into your watchlist, your account, or that you're tracking their listings.
Cookies and local storage
We use your browser's local storage — not third-party tracking cookies — to remember your age-gate confirmation and, before you sign in, your anonymous watchlist. Signing in relies on standard session storage to keep you signed in between visits.
How long we keep it
We keep account and watchlist data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we remove your personal information within a reasonable time, except where we're required to keep records (for example, billing history) for legal or accounting purposes.
Your rights
You can, at any time:
- Access or correct the information on your account
- Delete your account and associated data
- Unsubscribe from email alerts (a link is in every email) or remove a phone number from text alerts

Security
We rely on our providers' industry-standard security practices (encryption in transit, access controls) to protect your data. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect your information and to limit access to it internally.
Not for minors
This service is not directed at anyone under 21. If we learn we've collected information from someone under 21, we'll delete it.
Changes to this policy
If we make material changes to this policy, we'll update the effective date above and, where appropriate, notify account holders by email.
